چکیده

This paper presents a Single-chamber Microbial Fuel Cell (SMFC) design by utilizing soil as substrate with two sets of electrode combinations, which are graphite-activated carbon and copper-zinc different sizes. It was found that graphite activated produced greater power density compared to copper zinc. Moreover, it observed the cloth bigger surface area 51cm2, resulted in higher 904mW/m2. To further improve voltage production this model, four SMFCs were stacked series connected DC-DC boost converter increase 1.482 V for 1.722 electrode, respectively, sufficient light up an LED light.

A Single-Chamber Microbial Fuel Cell without an Air Cathode

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) represent a novel technology for wastewater treatment with electricity production. Electricity generation with simultaneous nitrate reduction in a single-chamber MFC without air cathode was studied, using glucose (1 mM) as the carbon source and nitrate (1 mM) as the final electron acceptor employed by Bacillus subtilis under anaerobic conditions. Increasing current a...

Production of electricity during wastewater treatment using a single chamber microbial fuel cell.

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) have been used to produce electricity from different compounds, including acetate, lactate, and glucose. We demonstrate here that it is also possible to produce electricity in a MFC from domestic wastewater, while atthe same time accomplishing biological wastewater treatment (removal of chemical oxygen demand; COD). Tests were conducted using a single chamber microbi...
